To say that I was an article on health nut would be an understatement but today I try not read anything health related at all. My friends thought I had become a health and fitness nut and I suppose I had. It’s very easy to become obsessive in an area of your life once you have been obsessive an another and that was me because after being as fat as I was and then losing the weight, I wanted to stay that way.

I felt I had to read every article on health I could find so I wouldn’t miss out on any new diet or exercise regime or healthy supplement I should have. But nowadays, when I read an article on health, it just fills me up with anxiety, After all, one article on health will say one thing, another day and another article says something else.

It’s no good telling people how good soy is one day than saying it can have adverse affects the next. They just don’t realise that most of us just want to stay fit, healthy and live as long as possible and to do this we need their help, not hindrance.

The problem on the perfect lifestyle was worse for me because I just kept reading the contradictions. A prime example of these confusing contradictions is with coffee; chocolate and alcohol which we’re told were not good for you. The experts that told us not so long ago that these things were bad for us are now saying the complete opposite, for instance red wine is good for the heart and dark chocolate can be good for stress, dark beer or Guinness is also as is coffee but all, I hasten to add in moderation. It won’t be long before these same scientists are telling us that new research shows that cake, ice-cream and fast food are the best foods to eat to lower you cholesterol.

It has taken me a long time but in future, I will look after my own interests, be the judge of what I will and will not eat and ignore what these people say. I am not going to stop reading articles on health because I still enjoy them but I do not intent to let them dictate how I should live my life. I think I will still read articles on health because some of the information does make sense but in future I just want to be the judge. Surely I am no different from anyone else in wanting an active life, but I just do not want the constant infringement on my personal freedom that I’ve had over many years from these so called experts.
